Tuner and metronome

The Tuner and Metronome tabs sit between Tone and Takes. Both are free.

Tuner

The Tuner tab listens to the input on the Record tab’s You card, before your pedal, so drive and effects never confuse it. Play one note at a time. The display shows the nearest note, how many cents off it is, and its frequency, with a marker that leans toward ♭ or ♯. Before you play, it says Play a note.

Under the display, the tuner says Tune up, Tune down, or In tune, which means within 5 cents. The button at the bottom right shows the reference pitch, such as A4 = 440 Hz. Click it to choose 432, 440, or 442 Hz.

The tuner listens only while its tab is on screen in the full window, and it stops when you press Record. With no input chosen, it says No input chosen, and Choose input on Record takes you to the Record tab. If Afinar can’t use the microphone yet, it says Microphone access needed.

Metronome

The Metronome tab shows the tempo in beats per minute, with one light per beat. Tap tempo sets the tempo from your taps, and − and + change it one beat at a time, from 40 to 208. Click the tempo to type a number. Beats per bar sets 1 to 12 beats, and Volume sets how loud the click is. Afinar remembers your tempo and beats per bar.

Press Start to hear the click, and Stop to end it. It keeps clicking when you switch tabs, close the window, or record a take. While it runs, a dot shows on the Metronome tab, and ♩ shows beside the icon in the menu bar. Quitting Afinar stops it.

Only you hear the click, and the tab says It’s never recorded.
